Station 65 on Working Fire Hours
after Ladder is put back in Service
Ladder 65 had been back in-service
for only a few hours after it's month long repairs when it
was dispatched for a Building Fire in Kimberton's Local. At
17:30 hours the CCFB dispatched a box alarm to 202
Schuylkill Road at the Redners Warehouse Market, which
consisted of Stations 61, 72, 65, 62 for two Engines, and
two MICU's from 67. Responding units were advised that paper
towels were lit on fire and there was a heavy smoke
condition in the store with everyone reported out. The 26 PD
arrived to find heavy smoke and a working fire inside. Chief
65 arrived and established command as no 61 chief officers
had arrived yet.
Command ordered Ladder 65 to the AB
corner to go to the roof and Rescue 72 to hit a hydrant at
the AB corner of the building. Engine 61-1 arrived and
pulled past Rescue 72 and pulled a 1 3/4 inch hand line.
Ladder 65's crew split in two teams, the first crew assisted
the Engine Company with stretching their line and helping
them find the fire. The second crew went to the roof to open
up existing openings and release the smoke. Command placed
the fire under control at 18:00 hours and requested the
Chester County FM's Office, The Health Inspector and BELFOR.
Crews then spent the next 4 hours
clearing smoke and checking the surrounding buildings in the
Valley Forge Mall Complex. The cause of the fire is still
under investigation by the Chester County FM's Office.
Station
65 was clear and available by 22:00
hours. Special thanks to Montco Tower 63 for the stand-by
coverage.
