Busy New
Year's Day
01/01/2008
Around 4:15PM on New Year's Day, all three Phoenixville
Fire Companies along with an Engine from Valley Forge
and a Tower from Kimberton responded to the 200 block of
Fillmore Street on the borough's north side for a house
fire. Crews from the PFD arrived within minutes to find
a semi-detached dwelling with smoke showing from the
front door. Hoselines were stretched off of Engine 66
and crews quickly extinguished a kitchen fire. Remaining
crews checked for fire extension and ventilated the
dwelling. The fire was contained to the kitchen with
smoke damage throughout. This fire also sent two
civilians to the hospital via MICU 67 with smoke
inhalation. All units were clear of the scene around
5:30PM.
In addition to the late afternoon house fire, the PFD
also responded to a serious auto accident on Bridge
Street near Church Street early in the morning around
6:30AM. One car struck a utility pole and an occupant
suffered injuries requiring helicopter transport to a
trauma center. New Year's Day evening continued busy
with burnt food at the King Terrace Apartments on High
Street and then a pedestrian was struck by a car on Nutt
Road near Township Line Road just before 7PM. The
injured pedestrian was also transported to a trauma
center via helicopter which landed nearby in the
Redner's parking lot.
